‘Bottoms Up’ Celebrates Its Half-Century Mark
LAS
VEGAS – July 3, 2008
– Tuesday night, cast members and friends of Bottoms Up
celebrated the 50th anniversary of its fabled
beginning on July 1, 1958, by getting together at the Bahama
Breeze on Flamingo and Paradise to surprise the producer and
erstwhile star of the venerable show, Breck Wall.
Although
there was reminiscing about the past, the main topic of
conversation was the excitement of the upcoming ALL NEW version
of the show. “I was thrilled to see everyone,” said Wall. “You
know, I’ve been so busy thinking about the new show that I
almost forgot that it was the 50th anniversary. But,
I’m glad my friends remembered, because the cake was delicious.”
Past and
present cast members included David Harris, Carrie Proffitt, Sue
Motsinger and Jimmy Emerson. Others celebrating were friends of
the show Jim Peterson and Ken Owen, as well as Bahama Breeze
manager Stewart Wigdor.
Emerson,
head of Starr Pro Productions, is leading the production team
that is putting together the updated version of the classic
show. He has assembled a team of writers, led by talented
comedy performer and writer, Billie Duncan. Also contributing to
the new material for Bottoms Up are Robert Brown, Wayne
Moore, Don
Norris, Nancy Ford and David Harris. All writers have credits
in the comedy field, having written for major television shows
and celebrities. Kenneth Blake has been hired to direct the new
show, which will feature a well-known guest star who will be
announced next week.
The new
Bottoms Up will open for a two-week out-of-town run at
Northern Quest Casino in Spokane, Washington. Look for
Bottoms Up to make a huge comeback to the Las Vegas arena.
There will
be sneak peek at the new show on Tuesday, August 5, at the Onyx
Theatre for invited guests only, to test the new material before
the show opens to the public.

New Producers Want New Blood for Zany New
‘Bottoms Up’
A talent
search is on in Vegas for comic actors who can sing and dance as
Starr Pro Productions completely revamps the long-running comedy
revue, Bottoms Up.
The Auditions are Tuesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 8 at the
Onyx Theatre, 953 E. Sahara Ave. # 16 (inside the Rack clothing
store) from noon to 3 pm each day. Producers need four character
comedy actors: one plus-size woman who can sing extremely well,
one woman no larger than size 9, one good-looking male lead, and
another male lead who must be African-American. Auditions for
dancers will be announced soon.
Producer
Jimmy Emerson has gathered a team of writers in California,
Nevada and Texas to update and reinvigorate Breck Wall’s madcap
show. Wall, who has been inducted into the Las Vegas Hall of
Fame, brought the show to Vegas in 1964 and has been director,
producer and star every since, and he wants to be around to
bring out the next generation of talent to star in his show.
“I’m
really glad to have Jimmy on board for this new version of the
show,” he said. “He was in Bottoms Up, and he is one of
the funniest people I ever met. Very smart too. I’m extremely
excited about what’s he’s done so far. It is going to be
fabulous.” Wall and comic genius David Harris will still be in
the show, but Emerson and Wall want to showcase new talent to
tackle the show’s fresh, more cutting-edge material.
“Although
we love the burlesque quality the show has always had, a lot of
our new material has to do with current events and pop culture,
along with a few well-placed jabs at our political leaders,”
said Emerson. “It’s sort of Saturday Night Live with
showgirls and production numbers.”
New
material includes a range of skits and songs, such as a spoof on
American Idol and a lively country dance number to David Fahl’s
“Easy Woman Polka” which is sure to bring the house down.
Although the show has been completely rewritten, Emerson and
Wall have left room in the script for a couple of Bottoms Up
classics that fans of the show will want to see.
The new Bottoms Up will open September 2, 2008, at Northern Quest
Casino in Spokane, Washington, for a two-week run. This will be
the 10th show that Starr Pro Productions has brought
to the Casino. Other Starr Pro Productions at Northern Quest
include Norbert Aleman’s An Evening at La Cage,
Christopher Peterson’s Eyecons (which is currently
touring), and Showstoppers, a glittering salute to
Broadway, directed by Kenneth Blake who has been contracted to
direct the new Bottoms Up. Also on the production team
are associate producer Carrie Proffit and choreographer Jim
Lash. Costumes are by Shawn M and Miracle Costume.
Said
Emerson, “We have a great team, and we are looking for the stars
who will make this a truly great show.”
